After the death of his first wife in 1788, St. George Tucker left his plantation in Chesterfield County and installed himself and his five children in this roomy two-story home in Williamsburg. Tucker eventually remarried and enjoyed a long and prosperous like as a judge and as law professor at William and Mary. With seven children and a wife in residence, the St. George Tucker home was often filled with the chaotic merrymaking of family and friends. Tucker affectionately referred to his home as Fort St. George. When restoration of the Tucker home began in 1930s, all but the kitchen wing was still intact. This unique home with its many additions and varied rooflines is one of the most appealing in Williamsburg.
